Cisitalia 202 Pininfarina memorabilia color presentation buck, wood model, 1948

According to Andrea Pininfarina only 3 or 4 of those bucks were made - this is possibly the only survivor. Dating from 1948 this large wooden Pininfarina memorabilia model is at 1/5 scale, 28.5” long. It was used to show potential clients a sampling of colors and still shows some spots of primer. The buck has been stripped in bear wood and is in very good condition.

A little bit of history...

After forty years of collecting and dealing in automobile memorabilia (or automobilia as we like to call it), you would think you’ve seen it all, but among all the items we offer on a regular basis, it is always a pleasant surprise to come across an item you have never seen before; enter this large (28.5" inches long) Cisitalia 202 color study presentation buck.
In 1948, Pininfarina gave prospective purchasers of the Cisitalia 202 the opportunity of seeing the exact color of their car on a wooden study buck before the paint was applied to the actual car. These wooden bucks were painstakingly handcrafted to the precise shape and proportions of this great Italian design which has a permanent place in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Beyond its importance as an automotive design artifact, the Pininfarina memorabilia buck makes a wonderful stand-alone sculpture.
According to Andrea Pininfarina, this study buck is one of only three or four ever created. It still bears the remnants of its last coat of paint before it was cleaned in preparation for the next color to be applied.
For being almost 70 years old the buck is still in wonderful condition. It was acquired decades ago from Pininfarina by a collector in Paris, and later made its way to the U.S. where it was recently consigned to us for sale. For the time being, it rests on a pedestal in our gallery, where we enjoy it every day.
