Racing Stars and Cars Ready for Inaugural
Classic 12 Hour at Sebring

Sebring, FL -- Racing champions of the past and present, and a hefty lineup of legendary race cars from the last 50 years are now at Sebring International Raceway for Historic Sportscar Racing's first-ever Classic 12 Hour at Sebring that starts today (Dec. 1) and runs through Sunday.

Officially titled the Classic 12 Hour at Sebring, Pistons and Props, presented by the Alan Jay Automotive Network, this weekend's event pays homage to the iconic Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring that celebrates its 65th running March 18, 2017.

Modeled after the popular Classic 24 Hour at Daytona presented by IMSA, which was run for the first time in 2014 and 2015 on the road course at Daytona International Speedway, the Classic 12 Hour will see HSR competitors from across the globe race in tribute to the grueling half-day Sebring event.

International racing legends participating include 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans winner and VM columnist Jochen Mass, Andy Wallace, Butch Leitzinger, Frank Stippler, Ollie Bryant, Chris Dyson, Randy Pobst and recently crowned IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Prototype co-champion Eric Curran.

Mass will be driving a classic 1969 Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona while Wallace returns to the same Rogers Motorsports 2005 Audi R8 LMS he co-drove to victory in the inaugural Classic 24 Hour in 2014 with Doug Smith.

Classic 12 Hour competition will be divided between six distinct and period-correct Run Groups, each showcasing different eras of race cars, many of which were raced in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in their prime.

Authentic 24 Hours of Le Mans racetrack Michelin marker sign

Authentic 24 Hours of Le Mans racetrack Michelin marker sign

In the 1930’s the 24 Hours of Le Mans race track organizers - the ACO - installed every half kilometers “un poteau Michelin” - or Michelin Sign - especially made for the circuit and offered by DAS (Defense Automobile et Sportive - a governement agency) to show the racers locations on the race track.

Over the years these signs were either broken due to accidents or removed for safety reasons. Most of them are now on display at the Le Mans museum, others were destroyed when removed.

One of the only surviving one believed to be in private hands is the 4.5 km one that we are offering here. This particular marker was placed in the Mulsanne straight (la ligne droite des Hunaudières), close to the famous restaurant l’Auberge des Hunaudières.

The sign is 46” tall by 24.5” wide, made of reinforced cement - 170lbs heavy - with enamel white face, navy blue and red markings and logos. A- cond., (some paint and enamel chips and knicks).

Note that this unique historical marker will be offered for sale in our upcoming October auction at arteautoauction.com, so stay tuned and let us know if you would like to be notified.

A similar sign for the 6.5 km marker is on display at the Brooklands Museum.

Read more info (in French) about these signs here.

Porsche club of San Antonio at the l'art et l'automobile ranch

It was fun to welcome the Porsche club of San Antonio at the ranch in Harper, Texas!

Club members first enjoyed a nice country drive, followed by a delicious gourmet meal prepared by Karen Vaucher.

With over 50 people attending - driving in more than 30 Porsches - we were impressed, happy, and can't wait to do it again!

1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 - For Sale

1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0

The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 was built in 1976 and 1977. Porsche made around 3800 of them during those years with over 2500 Coupés, over 1100 Targas, and a few RHD. Porsche that year intoduced the Carrera 3.0 in Europe and the 930 Turbo in the U.S. They both used the same basic engine, one with Turbo, the other without.

This particular model we offer for sale (Serial #9117600090) had 4 owners and has 49,000 miles.
In the early 1980's it was fitted with a more reliable 1979 911SC engine #911110169 (rebuilt in the early 2000's) and four Ronal wheels.
The car was always garage kept, has its original paint (has been retouched), a bit faded, with stone chips.

It's a great runner/driver, properly maintained, and has been owned by me, Jacques Vaucher at l'art et l'automobile, since 1993. I put 20,000 miles on it, owning a few other cars it is now time to downsize.

Make an offer!
